Chevy Chase Playground Modernization 


The DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) Chevy Chase modernization project at 41st Street and Livingston Street, NW, is a full site renovation. The project scope includes:

Field Improvements

  • New under field drainage system
  • New Bermuda-grass sod for entire field and new clay materials for "skinned" areas
  • New warm-up pitching mounds
  • New renovation batting cage
  • Filed markings and accessories for little league baseball
  • New irrigation system
  • New solar electronic scoreboard
  • New metal bleachers
  • New removable, 4-ft high vinyl-coated link fence to define playing field with home run / foul marker poles
  • Replacement of the two metal field maintenance boxes with prefabricated walk-in shed
  • A waterproof electrical outlet at the batting cage

New Playgrounds and Spray Park

  • New playground and tot lot
  • New rubber surface play area
  • New splash park area

Dog Park

A 5,000 square-foot dog park has been requested and DPR is currently reviewing the application. The application also requests the designation of the entire ball field as an off-leash dog area during certain times of the day.

Recreation Center

  • Addition of 450 square-foot of bathroom/recreation space
  • General ADA upgrades
  • New windows
  • Cosmetic upgrades including installation of new fixtures, painting, etc.

General Amenities

  • Replacement of 3 exterior water fountains
  • Play Courts were re-surfaced in 2009
