The recent severe storms that pummeled the District produced considerable tree debris blocking streets, alleys and sidewalks. So far, the DC Department of Public Works has collected almost 150 tons of the debris since August 12 and reopened neighborhoods to foot and vehicular traffic. Within the first four days of the August 12 storm, DPW had collected more than 50 tons of debris.

“We have crews working citywide to help residents recover from the storms,” said DPW Director William O. Howland Jr. “And we will continue this work, with residents’ help.”

Director Howland asked residents to bundle branches into 4-foot lengths and place them with their trash on collection day. In twice-a-week collection neighborhoods, these bundles should be put out with the trash on the second collection day.
