Ft Totten Transfer Station

DPW offers a solid waste and household hazardous waste disposal drop-off and free personal document shredding site at the Fort Totten Trash Transfer Station.

Residential Trash Collection

DPW collects trash once or twice per week from single-family residences and residential buildings with three or fewer living units.

Days: Monday - Friday

Bulk Trash Collection

DPW collects large, bulky items by appointment from residential households that receive DPW trash collection service.

DPW provides free recycling collection for single-family homes and small residential buildings (with up to three living units).

DPW operates a monthly household hazardous waste and e-cycling drop-off and free personal document shredding site at the Fort Totten Trash Transfer Station, the first Saturday of the month, except holidays.

Solid Waste Education and Enforcement Program (SWEEP)

The Solid Waste Education and Enforcement Program (SWEEP) provides a variety of services to District residents to combat illegal dumping, clean up vacant lots, and support neighborhood clean-ups.

DPW collects leaves at least twice each year from residential neighborhoods by “vacuuming” the leaves raked into treebox spaces.
