Abandoned Vehicles (cont.)

Note that a vehicle on private property cannot be legally removed before 45
days without the property owner's permission, although a notice is sent to the last registered vehicles owner, to the home address where the vehicle was taken from and also published in a major newspaper. When the owner is located, removal of the vehicle can generally be expedited. A dangerous vehicle may be removed immediately with ticketing.”

Once a vehicle has been impounded at the Blue Plains facility, DPW makes a final attempt to contact the last registered owner by mail. The District may dispose of unclaimed vehicles after 28 days.
