Press Release for Immediate Release May 30, 2006 Memorial Day Marks Change in Holiday Trash Collections (Washington, DC) Beginning this week, all city trash and recyclables collection will “slide” one day following a public holiday. In the past, the post-holiday schedule was staggered, with one collection schedule for Supercan areas, and another schedule for households in twice-a-week collection neighborhoods. Now the routes have been harmonized allowing uniform trash and recycling collection citywide. This change affects about 25 percent of DPW customers—those who have twice-weekly trash and recyclables collection. For them, Monday’s collection will be made Tuesday; Tuesday’s collection will be made Wednesday; Thursday’s collection will be made Friday, and Friday’s collection will be made Saturday. Once-weekly (Supercan) trash and recyclables collection will slide one day for the remainder of the week, beginning Tuesday, May 30.
