Press Release for Immediate Release

November 8, 2006

DPW, DDOT Will Conduct a Snow Operations Dress Rehearsal Thursday, November 9

(Washington, DC) On Thursday, November 9, the DC Department of Public Works (DPW) and the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will conduct a pre-season dry run with its snow operations equipment and personnel. The exercise will use a Snow Emergency scenario to test responsiveness, route familiarity and completion, as well as equipment operation.

The snow operations dry run will pull many DPW employees from their usual street and alley cleaning tasks. Therefore, there will be no scheduled street sweeping and leaf collection on Thursday, November 9. Additionally, there will be no street sweeping or leaf collection Friday, November 10, due to the Veterans Day holiday.

As a result of the drill and the holiday, residents who park on alternate-side street sweeping blocks will not have to move their cars on Thursday or Friday of this week.

In anticipation of the dry run, DPW and DDOT have conducted driver training courses with small groups over the past five Saturdays. Nearly 250 new and returning drivers and supervisors have completed the mandatory training.
