DPW Director Issues Statement About Accidental Damage of Private Vehicles by City Truck

(Washington, DC) Department of Public Works (DPW) Director William O. Howland Jr. issued the following statement regarding the incident involving a leaf vacuum truck and private vehicles last weekend.

"On Saturday, December 2, a DC leaf vacuum truck damaged a number of private vehicles on Wisconsin Avenue, NW, near the Washington National Cathedral. The Department of Public Works acknowledges and regrets this incident, especially the inconvenience it has caused the vehicle owners.

"DPW will work with the DC Metropolitan Police Department (MPDC) to notify the owners whose vehicles were damaged by the DPW leaf collection truck.

"Following notification of this incident by the Emergency Management Administration on Saturday afternoon, DPW's Solid Waste Management Administration began its own investigation along with the DPW safety officer. Once we identified the employees, DPW notified MPDC. DPW will take the necessary corrective actions regarding the employees involved."
