Street Cleaning Requests

In the District's inner core, many residential streets are cleaned weekly due to dense population and heavy traffic. Signs are posted on these blocks indicating the day and hours during which the sweepers will be cleaning. During these posted times, cars are not allowed to park on the side of the street being serviced, in order that the sweepers have full access to the curbside. Before a new block is designated for regular street sweeping, residents must indicate that they are willing to move their cars during street-sweeping hours.

To request that a block or blocks be added to a street sweeping route for scheduled weekly service, residents must first submit a petition to DPW's Street and Alley Cleaning Division containing the approval signatures of over 65 percent of the residents on each block. Residents may receive a petition - with instructions and contact information - by calling 311. After receipt of the petition, DPW inspectors will survey the block or blocks and will notify the petitioner of the determination. If approved, the Department of Transportation will install No Parking for Street Cleaning signs.

Holiday Schedule
