APWA Kicks off National Public Works Week with “Low & Slow Across America’s Infrastructure” Tour Launch at DPW’s Fleet Management Administration

Monday, May 18, 2015

The DC Department of Public Works (DPW) and the American Public Works Association (APWA) will celebrate National Public Works Week at DPW’s Fleet Management campus on Tuesday, May 19, at 10:00am. The celebration at Fleet will kick off the first leg of APWA’s “Low and Slow Across America’s Infrastructure Tour.” The tour will feature award-winning journalist and best-selling author Dan McNichol who will drive across the country in his 1949 Hudson Commodore to visit various infrastructure projects and increase public awareness about the current state of U.S. infrastructure investment.

National Public Works Week begins Monday, May 18 and has been recognized since 1960. It is a celebration of those who provide and maintain the infrastructure and services collectively known as public works. DC government was recently acknowledged by 100 Best Fleets as having one of the top public fleets throughout North, South and Central America. Due to Fleet’s efforts to introduce cleaner fuel and electric vehicles, DC has been recognized as having one of the greenest public fleets for the past several years.
