March 3, 2014 Ice and Snow Storm Continues to Hinder Trash, Recycling Collections

Wednesday, March 5, 2014
Alley collections are most affected because of icy conditions.

(Washington, DC)  The Department of Public Works announced today that its trash and recycling collection crews are picking up solid waste where possible.  The effect of the March 3 ice/snowstorm is still being felt, especially in the alleys where more than 70 percent of collections are made.  Residents whose collections are scheduled for Thursday or Friday are asked to put their trash and/or recycling out for collection and the crews will do their best to safely get these items.  However, DPW will determine if conditions allow the crews to make the collections without injuring anyone or damaging property.  Where collections are not made, residents are asked to hold onto their trash and/or recycling until their next regularly scheduled collection day.

Residents with bulk appointments also can expect those collections to be made as conditions permit.  If you have a bulk appointment for Thursday or Friday, March 6 or 7 and the items are not collected, please call 311 to reschedule your collection day.
