Mayor Bowser to Kick-Off 2016 Professional Equipment Roadeo

Friday, April 1, 2016
DPW, DDOT drivers test their knowledge and skills. Winners will represent DC in APWA Regional

(Washington, DC) – Mayor Muriel Bowser will kick-off the 2016 Professional Equipment Roadeo, 10 am Saturday, April 2, 2016 at RFK Stadium, Lots 8A and 8B.

The Roadeo is where drivers test their skills to win the opportunity to represent the District in the APWA Regional competition in Roanoke, Va., May 4-6. Final scores will be based on the Inspection Procedures/Circle of Safety test, which requires competitors to identify at least 10 missing or disabled mechanical or vehicle parts; and the Equipment Operation, which is the main event. The operators will navigate an obstacle course or will be required to operate the equipment in a challenging manner to demonstrate their knowledge and skills operating these types of trucks and equipment: backhoe, bucket truck, 4-wheel street sweeper, front-end loader, 6-wheel dump truck with plow and knuckle boom. Drivers also may test their driving skill on the light plow (Ford 550 pick-up equipped with a plow), but this category is not part of the APWA Regional competition.
