The DPW residential street sweeping program, active annually from March 1st to October 31st, targets densely-populated neighborhoods with significant pedestrian traffic.

Residents can initiate a petition for residential street sweeping in their area. To be successful, this petition requires signatures from at least 80% of the block’s residents, affirming their commitment to adhere to parking restrictions during street sweeping hours. Street sweepers operate along residential streets with posted signs indicating these parking restrictions. Violations of these restrictions may result in a $45 fine.

Mechanical residential street sweeping is suspended during the winter because the sweepers emit a fine spray of water that can freeze and cause pedestrian and vehicular accidents.

Larger sweepers are used along freeways and main arterials, which are swept year-round, at night, depending on the temperature.
