(Washington, DC) The citywide Snow Emergency declared on Sunday will be rescinded on Wednesday, February 19 at 10 am. After that time, motorists may park on designated Snow Emergency Routes.

Due to the heavy snowfall, which has made alleys and many residential streets impassable, there will be no trash, bulk refuse or recyclables collection on Wednesday this week. Trash collection was also suspended today in order to focus municipal resources on snow removal. Trash and recyclables collection will resume on Thursday.

Over 85 percent of the city's major roads have been plowed and 38 of 49 residential routes are in progress. The District's goal is to make most residential streets passable within 60 hours. "'Passable' means that streets will be snow-packed, one through lane will be plowed and all-weather tires are advised," said DPW Director, Leslie Hotaling. "Sixty hours is well ahead of the 84-hour standard set by the Washington Metropolitan Council of Governments for storms of this size," she noted.

Home and business owners are reminded that they are responsible for clearing sidewalks and steps abutting their property.
