The District Announces Start of 2020-21 Leaf Collection Season Collection Process Adjusted; Residents Required to Bag Leaves

Monday, September 28, 2020

(WASHINGTON, DC) – Tomorrow, the District of Columbia Department of Public Works (DPW) will host a media availability to preview the 2020-21 Leaf Collection program for residents who receive DPW trash and recycling services. Leaves will be collected twice from each neighborhood between November 9, 2020 and January 4, 2021.

In continuing support of the District’s COVID-19 response, the leaf collection process has been adjusted to help maintain on-time service delivery and to keep everyone safe. This year residents are asked to place their bagged leaves in their tree boxes or at the curb in front of their homes on the Sunday of the week of their scheduled collection. To help with the transition to the bagged leaf program, DPW will provide a one-time-only distribution of 20 paper bags to each residence serviced by DPW. Bags are scheduled to be delivered before the start of collection.
