The safe disposal of household hazardous waste (HHW) and unwanted electronic equipment helps prevent the release of dangerous, toxic substances into the environment and harm and injury to DPW workers.

DPW operates solid waste disposal at two transfer stations; Fort Totten Transfer Station and Benning Road Transfer Station. Benning Road Transfer Station is temporarily closed until further notice. Household Hazardous Waste, electronics recycling, and document shredding will be collected during special waste collection events.
