DPW, DDOT Urge Delivery Companies to Practice Bicycle Lane Safety

Friday, November 2, 2018

The DC Department of Public Works and the DC Department of Transportation sent letters to Postmaster General Megan Brennan; Frederick Smith, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, FedEx Corporation; and David Abney, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, United Parcel Service of America, Inc., asking for their assistance in getting delivery trucks to stop parking in District bicycle lanes.

This practice creates a dangerous safety risk for District cyclists, and runs counter to Mayor Bowser’s Vision Zero strategies aimed at making DC streets safer for cyclists, motorists, and pedestrians.
