DPW to Observe Christmas, Mon., Dec. 26, New Year’s Day, Mon., Jan. 2

Monday, December 19, 2016
Trash, recycling, leaves will not be collected; most parking enforcement will be suspended.

The Department of Public Works announced today that most services will be suspended during the District government’s observance of Christmas on Monday, December 26, 2016 and New Year’s Day on Monday, January 1, 2017.

SANITATION SERVICES

Trash and Recycling Collections: For the weeks starting December 26, 2016 and January 2, 2017, trash and recycling collections will “slide” to the next day, for the remainder of the week. This applies to both once-a-week and twice-a-week collection neighborhoods. Trash and recycling containers should be put out for collection no earlier than 6:30 pm the night before collection and removed from public space by 8 pm on the collection day to avoid sanitation enforcement.

Ft. Totten: The Ft. Totten Transfer Station, located at 4900 John F. McCormack Drive, NE, will be closed Monday, December 26 and Monday, January 2. The facility will reopen Tuesday at its normal hours of operation of 1 pm-5pm. Saturday Household Hazardous Waste/E-cycling drop-off services will not be affected by the holiday.

Leaf Collections: Leaf collections will not be made Monday, December 26, or Monday, January 2. Since leaf collection services have been affected by recent winter weather events, residents are advised to review their updated leaf collection schedule by visiting http://leaf.dcgis.dc.gov.

PARKING ENFORCEMENT SERVICES

DPW will not enforce parking meters, residential parking, rush hour lane restrictions or tow abandoned vehicles on Monday, December 26 or Monday, January 2. DC Streetcar parking restrictions along the H Street/Benning Road, NE corridor will not be enforced on Christmas day—Sunday, December 25, but will be enforced on Monday, December 26 and Monday, January 2.

“Blocked” Streetcar Parking Enforcement is daily, including weekends and holidays, along H Street and Benning Road, NE, between 3rd Street and Oklahoma Avenue, NE. The hours of enforcement are concurrent with the streetcar schedule, which can be found at https://www.dcstreetcar.com/riding/schedule/.

Normal parking enforcement operations will resume the following Tuesday during both holiday weeks.
