Leaf Season has arrived!

Due to inclement snow and winter weather conditions, the first pass for leaf collection in Section D will now begin on Monday, December 22, 2025. If you are in a DPW-serviced residence in Section D in any of the eight wards, please rake your leaves to the tree box or the curb in front of your home by Sunday, December 21. The Department of Public Works (DPW) is now operating from our new headquarters at 899 North Capitol Street, NE, Washington, DC. This move reflects our commitment to improving efficiency and enhancing service delivery for the residents and partners of the District.
MuralsDC serves as a compliment to DPW’s mission to clean and beautify the nation’s capital. Since its pilot in 2007, MuralsDC has painted nearly 150 murals in every ward of the city–more than any other entity in the District. While most of the artists are local, the program has worked with artists across the country & around the world, creating some of the most engaging and photographed murals in the region.

DPW has begun Street Sweeping!

Fort Totten Transfer Station Changes

Important Update: Residential Drop-Off Operations have returned to the Fort Totten Transfer Station! Bulk, trash, and recycling drop-off will be relocated to 4900 John McCormack Rd NE.

DPW Special Waste Collection Events

The Department of Public Works (DPW) hosts Special Waste Collection Events, which are your chance to safely recycle electronics, dispose of hazardous waste, and shred documents. Residents can reserve their 15-minute spot for quick, easy drop-off! Open to DC residents only—bring proof of residency. No commercial waste allowed. Let’s keep DC clean together!

All delayed routes are being monitored to ensure their completion. As of December 17, 2025, these routes are delayed and will be completed on December 18, 2025. 

  • Recycling Route in ANC-4D, 16th Street Heights
    • Residents on Upshur St NW, New Hampshire Ave NW, Allison St NW, 5th St NW, 4th St NW, Varnum St, & Webster St NW, may be affected.
