Fort Totten transfer station changes

Important Update: Residential Drop-Off Operations have returned to the Fort Totten Transfer Station!

Bulk, trash, and recycling drop-off will be relocated to 4900 John McCormack Rd NE. Contact 311 for bulk pick-ups.

Stay informed for a smooth transition!

Household Trash should be placed in trash bins at home, improper use of a litter cans could result in a citation.

DPW is taking a stand against litter!

Public litter can are receptacles that are intended for small litter like non-recyclable food wrappers and other trash acquired while in transit in the District.

Public litter cans are not for household trash.

Violators may be subject to fines.

Tow and Boot Electronic Alert Program

Notice of Violation Dismissal (February 19—May 15): Solid Waste Bins in Public Space

The Department of Public Works (DPW) has dismissed all Notice of Violations (NOV) issued for solid waste containers being in public space at the wrong time for those who had not previously received a warning. The dismissal applies to 377 citations issued between February 19 (Presidents’ Day) and May 15. Moving forward, DPW’s Solid Waste and Education Enforcement Program (SWEEP) inspectors will issue warnings for this violation type prior to issuing a citation, which carries a $75 fine.
