DPW TO OBSERVE EMANCIPATION DAY, MON., APRIL 17

Thursday, April 13, 2017
Parking regulations will be enforced along the streetcar line. DPW will NOT enforce rush hour and other parking rules. Solid waste services also will be affected.

The DC Department of Public Works will observe Emancipation Day, Monday, April 17; therefore, sanitation services and parking enforcement will be suspended that day.

SANITATION SERVICES

Trash and Recycling Collections: Trash and recycling collections will “slide” to the next day, for the remainder of the week. This applies to both once-a-week and twice-a-week collection neighborhoods. Trash and recycling containers should be put out for collection no earlier than 6:30 pm the night before collection and removed from public space by 8 pm on the collection day to avoid sanitation enforcement.

Street Sweeping: Street sweeping will be suspended Monday and resume Tuesday, April 18.

Ft. Totten: The Ft. Totten Transfer Station, located at 4900 John F. McCormack Drive, NE, will be closed Monday, April 17 and will reopen Tuesday at its normal hours of operation of 1 pm-5pm. Saturday Household Hazardous Waste/E-cycling drop-off services will not be affected by the holiday.

The next shredding drop-off is Saturday, May 6. Additionally, DPW will conduct a monthly weekday HHW/e-cycling drop-off the Thursday before the first Saturday of each month (except holidays). The next Thursday HHW/e-cycling drop-off is Thursday, May 4, 1 pm to 5 pm.

PARKING ENFORCEMENT SERVICES

DPW will not enforce parking meters, residential parking, rush hour lane restrictions or tow abandoned vehicles Monday, April 17, except along the streetcar line.

“Blocked” Streetcar Parking Enforcement is daily, including weekends and holidays, along H Street and Benning Road, NE, between 3rd Street and Oklahoma Avenue, NE. The hours of enforcement are concurrent with the streetcar schedule, which can be found at https://www.dcstreetcar.com/riding/schedule/.

Normal enforcement citywide resumes Tuesday, April 18.
