DPW to Observe Memorial Day, Monday, May 27

Thursday, May 23, 2019

Sanitation and Most Parking Enforcement Will be Suspended for the Day

(WASHINGTON, DC) The DC Department of Public Works (DPW) will observe Memorial Day, Monday, May 27; therefore, sanitation services and most parking enforcement will be suspended and will resume on Tuesday, May 28.

  • Trash and recycling collections will “slide” to the next day for the remainder of the week into Saturday. For example, households that normally receive trash/recycling collections on Monday will be serviced Tuesday.

  • The Fort Totten and Benning Road transfer stations will be closed on the holiday, reopening the following day.

  • DPW will not enforce parking meters, residential parking, rush hour lane restrictions or tow abandoned vehicles Monday, May 27, except along the streetcar line and in the area surrounding Nationals Park for Monday’s baseball game.

  • The Blue Plains Impoundment Lot will be closed on the holiday, reopening the following day.

“Blocked” Streetcar Parking Enforcement is daily, including weekends and holidays, along H Street and Benning Road, NE, between 3rd Street and Oklahoma Avenue, NE. The hours of enforcement are concurrent with the streetcar schedule. Normal enforcement citywide resumes Tuesday, May 28.

DPW provides essential city services in two distinct program areas: environmental services/solid waste management and parking enforcement. Both contribute to making District streets and public spaces clean, safe, attractive and accessible for all residents, businesses, commuters and visitors.
