DPW Thanksgiving Service Schedule

Monday, November 20, 2017
Trash, recycling will not be collected; most parking enforcement will be suspended. Leaves will be collected as scheduled from “Area C” neighborhoods.

The DC Department of Public Works (DPW) will observe Thanksgiving on Thursday, November 23. As such, sanitation services will be suspended on Thursday, resuming Friday, November 24. Parking enforcement will also be suspended, with normal operations resuming Friday, November 24. The District of Columbia Government will be closed on Friday, November 24, but this will not impact sanitation services, parking enforcement, or leaf collections.

  • Thursday trash and recycling collections will “slide” to Friday for those who typically receive trash and recycling collection services on Thursday. Friday trash and recycling collections will “slide” to Saturday for those who typically receive trash and recycling collection services on Friday.
  • The Fort Totten and Benning Road transfer stations will be closed Thursday, November 23 and reopen on Friday.
  • Leaf collections will be made on Thanksgiving Day.

Streetcar parking enforcement is daily, including weekends and holidays, e.g., Thanksgiving, along H Street and Benning Road NE, between 3rd Street and Oklahoma Avenue NE. On Sundays and holidays, streetcar parking enforcement is between 8 am and 11 pm. Enforcement on Mondays—Thursdays is 6 am to midnight; and on Fridays and Saturdays, enforcement runs between 6 am and 2 am. Normal enforcement citywide of other parking violations resumes November 24.

DPW provides essential city services in two distinct program areas: environmental services/solid waste management and parking enforcement. Both contribute to making District streets and public spaces clean, safe, attractive and accessible for all residents, businesses, commuters and visitors.
