Mayor Bowser to Kick Off Snow Season with Dry Run Practice Session

Thursday, October 27, 2016

On Friday, Mayor Muriel Bowser and DC Snow Team leaders will kick off the 2016-2017 snow season at the Dry Run press conference. The Snow Dry Run is a training exercise for the 800+ members of the DC Snow Team (DPW, DDOT and other agencies) to prepare for snow fighting duties, proper handling of materials, proper maintenance of equipment, and proper operation of the equipment. About 700 plow drivers will drive their routes, leaving from their assigned staging yards, while administrative, supervisory, logistics and IT employees will practice their functions at their sites, including the salt domes.

As part of the Snow Dry Run, Mayor Bowser will bring comments before the snow team addressing the importance of preparedness and underscoring her commitment to keep our streets passable and the doors of District government, schools, and businesses open this winter. DPW Director Shorter will also publicly premiere the District’s new technology which will allow more accurate and efficient tracking of trucks, cleared streets, and salt.
