The purpose of the Annual Waste Diversion Update is to provide District residents, businesses, the Mayor, and Council a report on waste diversion programs and initiatives underway in the District as well as data on the District’s waste generation and diversion rates. This information is used by a variety of District stakeholders to continue collaboration towards our District-wide waste diversion goals.

The report was reviewed by the District’s Interagency Waste Reduction Working Group which is charged with implementing the requirements of the Sustainable Solid Waste Management Amendment Act of 2014 which mandates the creation of waste diversion policies and programs to support the District in achieving 80% waste diversion through source reduction, reuse, recycling, composting, and anaerobic digestion.
