(Washington, DC) The Department of Public Works announced today that due to the snow storm predicted to start Tuesday, March 25, it is cancelling the residential street sweeping program for the week of March 24-28. Parking officers will not write tickets for residential street sweeping violations; however, other parking violations will be enforced. DPW explained that the sweepers empty the debris they remove from the streets into dump trucks, which also are used in the snow program to spread salt during snow storms.
(Washington, DC) The Department of Public Works explained today why it is experiencing delays in removing Supercans and recycling cans within the 10-day turnaround time from when a removal is requested by calling 311 and the removal occurs. First, residents who have received their new Supercans and recycling cans voted in huge numbers with their “Take Me” stickers to have their old cans removed.

(Washington, DC) The Department of Public Works announced today that weekly mechanical sweeping of certain residential blocks will be suspended while construction is underway. As a result, DPW also will not issue parking tickets to vehicles that remain parked in these blocks during posted street sweeping days.

(Washington, DC) The Department of Public Works announced that due to today’s wintry mix of sleet, freezing rain and snow, trash and recycling collections are cancelled for Monday, March 3. Residents with Monday collections are asked to keep trash and recycling until their next collection day. (Washington, DC) the District Snow Team (Department of Public Works and Department of Transportation) will go into a full deployment Sunday, March 2, putting more than 200 plows on District commercial and residential streets by 2 am Monday, March 3. The forecast calls for a 90% chance for rain and snow early Monday morning and precipitation in the form of snow, sleet and freezing rain may continue through Monday evening. Possibly 1-3 inches of snow may accumulate but this can change. Temperatures will be in the low 30sF.
(Washington, DC) The DC Department of Public Works announced today that trash and recycling will be suspended Thursday, February 13 because the overnight snowfall made collections dangerous to staff and property. Residents whose trash and/or recycling are collected on Thursdays should hold onto these items until their next scheduled collection day.
DPW also will suspend delivery new Supercans and recycling cans to residents whose trash and recycling are collected by DPW. These deliveries will resume once conditions allow.
