DPW will Begin Residential Trash, Recycling Collections at 6:00 a.m. July 3 through September 1, Due To Predicted High Heat Index, Unhealthy Air Quality

Monday, July 3, 2023

The DC Department of Public Works (DPW) announced today that its trash and recycling crews will begin residential trash and recycling collections at 6:00 am, Monday, July 3, through Friday, September 1, 2023, due to the anticipation of recurrent 90-degree temperatures and unhealthy air quality during the summer’s hottest months.

“DPW’s Sanitation collections team is the backbone of city services and making sure they remain safe and healthy in high temperatures is a priority,” said DPW Director Timothy Spriggs. “Starting an hour earlier will reduce their susceptibility to heat-related illnesses and help maintain continuity in our residential collection service.”

Director Spriggs urges residents to avoid disruption in services by placing trash and recyclables out for collection beginning at 6:00 p.m. the night before collections.
