The flash flooding experienced across much of the city this weekend took its toll on personal and household property, saturating everything in its path. As residents begin cleaning up, the District Department of Public Works will lend a hand by collecting sodden carpeting and other debris starting Wednesday, August 15.
Residents are asked to:
- Roll carpets and securely bag other debris to the greatest extent possible for efficient collection and disposal;
- Place all flood debris at their regular point of trash collection; and
- Call the Citywide Call Center at (202) 727-1000 to request pick-up.
Residents can expect collection of their soggy refuse within five business days. "In addition to our day-to-day trash collection responsibilities, DPW is sometimes called upon for short-term solid waste collections, such as this," according to DPW Director, Leslie Hotaling. The Department will make the debris collections all week, or until requests dwindle, said Hotaling.
