DPW to Host the 10th Anniversary of the Citywide “Truck Touch” Sat., June 10 at RFK, Lot 7

Free family festival features city vehicles and activities for children of all ages

(Washington, DC) – The Department of Public Works (DPW) invites the public to attend the 10th annual summer kick off and citywide “Truck Touch” Saturday, June 10, 2017, from 9 am to 2 pm at RFK Stadium, Lot 7. The event will feature a variety of free activities for kids and adults. A host of DC government agencies will present and demonstrate nearly 30 vehicles used to clean and repair streets, change traffic lights, collect refuse, clear snow, provide emergency services, administer mobile health care, and more. Coordinated annually by the DC Department of Public Works (DPW), kids are encouraged to climb into the equipment, which include a police helicopter and horse, and can also take a ride on DPW Segways. Free boxed lunches will be provided to kids age 18 and under by the DC Free Summer Meals Program, funded by the US Department of Agriculture.

The DC Department of Parks and Recreation will also provide a bevy of activities for kids and adults alike, including, tennis, basketball and fitness activities. On the perimeter of the event, the District Department of Energy and the Environment will hold their annual Electric Grand Prix, where local high schoolers compete against one another in the battery-powered electric cars they’ve constructed.
