DPW to Observe Emancipation Day, Friday April 16

Expect normal trash/recycling collections that day. Parking regulations will be enforced in Nationals Park area.

(Washington, DC) The DC Department of Public Works will observe Emancipation Day, Friday, April 16, however, certain services will be performed following their normal schedule.

Trash/Recycling Collections: These collections will be made Friday, April 16, from residences where collections are made on Friday. Trash and recycling containers should be placed out for collection no earlier than 6:30 pm the night before collection and removed from public space by 8 pm on the day(s) of collection.

Parking Enforcement around Nationals Park: Parking regulations will be enforced around Nationals Park because a baseball game will be played Friday, April 16.

Ft. Totten Open Friday for Bulk, Recycling Disposal; Open Saturday for Household Hazardous Waste/E-cycling/Shredding: The Ft. Totten Transfer Station (4900 John F. McCormack Road, NE) will be open Friday from 1 pm to 5 pm to accept residents’ bulk items and recyclables. The Ft. Totten Transfer Station will be open Saturday from 8 am to 3 pm. Free compost is available to residents on Saturdays. Residents may bring their unwanted toxic items, such as pesticides, batteries and motor oil. Electronics, including televisions, computers and cell phones, also will be accepted. Residents also may bring up to five boxes of personal paper documents and credit cards to be shredded for free.

The following services will be suspended because of the holiday:

Citywide Parking Enforcement (except around Nationals Park): DPW will not enforce parking meters, residential parking, and rush hour lane restrictions. It also will suspend towing of abandoned vehicles.

Scheduled Street and Alley Cleaning, Nuisance Abatement also will be suspended.

All services will resume Monday, April 19, 2010.
