The DC Department of Public Works will observe Veterans Day, Friday, November 11; therefore, sanitation services and most parking enforcement will be suspended until Saturday, November 12.
Sanitation services will slide to Saturday, November 12 for residents on a Friday collection schedule.
• Friday trash and recycling collections in once-a-week and twice-a-week collection neighborhoods will “slide” to Saturday for those who typically receive trash and recycling collection service on Friday.
• DC regulations allow cans to be in the public space after 6:30 pm the night before trash/recycling collection; however the cans must be removed from public space by 8 pm on the collection day. Cans left in the public space outside of these times are subject sanitation enforcement.
• The Ft. Totten Transfer Station* will be closed Friday, November 11, and reopen Saturday, November 12 to residents between 8 pm and 3 pm.
Leaf collections will be made on Veterans Day.
• Leaves will be removed from neighborhoods at least twice, following the schedule that can be found at Find the Leaf Collection Schedule for Your Neighborhood on the DPW Website, www.dpw.dc.gov.
• Residents who receive DPW trash and recycling collection services were mailed a copy of the leaf collection schedule, which also can be found at Leaf Collection Brochure.
Please note carefully when DPW will be in your neighborhood and have your leaves ready for collection by the Sunday of each of your collection weeks.
On Veterans Day, Friday, November 11, DPW will enforce streetcar parking restrictions along the H Street/Benning Road, NE corridor.
• “Blocked” Streetcar Parking Enforcement is daily, including weekends and holidays, e.g., Veterans Day, along H Street and Benning Road, NE, between 3rd Street and Oklahoma Avenue, NE.
• On Sundays and holidays enforcement is between 8 am and 11 pm. Enforcement Mondays-Thursdays is 6 am to midnight; on Fridays and Saturdays, enforcement runs between 6 am and 2 am.
• Normal enforcement of parking violations such as expired meters, residential permit parking and emergency no parking resumes Saturday, November 12.
