Snow Emergency Route Parking Restrictions Go Into Effect Thursday, September 18 at Noon

Wednesday, September 17, 2003

(Washington, DC) The Department of Public Works will suspend some scheduled services in order to prepare for Hurricane Isabel's high winds and heavy rain, expected to begin in our area by tomorrow afternoon.

Additionally, emergency parking restrictions - normally reserved for snow events - will go into effect at noon on Thursday. The restrictions ban parking on all Snow Emergency Routes marked with red and white signs. Snow Emergency Route restrictions will be in effect throughout the weekend, or until further notice.

Residents are urged to find sheltered, off-street parking before tomorrow afternoon, as the District expects fallen trees and heavy debris that may hinder or prevent traffic flow in some areas following tomorrow's storm. All motorists are asked to stay off the streets as much as possible, freeing traffic lanes for emergency and debris-clearing vehicles. Any vehicles blocking or impeding posted emergency routes will be ticketed and towed.
