The DC Department of Public Works reminds residents that snowfall can delay leaf collections because these crews also clear snow. “Fortunately, there were no interruptions to the schedule during the first month of leaf collection, but as we go through December, there may be more significant accumulations that will affect the collection schedule,” said DPW Director William O. Howland Jr.

The leaf collection season began November 8 and will end December 31, and holiday trees will be collected between January 3 and 15 (please put trees in the treebox between January 2 and 9). Leaf collection crews are the backbone of the snow program. When snow is predicted, the leaf collection equipment is replaced with snow plows and salt spreaders.
