After June 3, 2023, special waste collection, including Household Hazardous Waste, will be relocated to RFK Stadium Lot 3, 2400 E Capitol St NE, due to the temporary closure of the Benning Road Transfer Station. - Fluorescent tubes 4 feet or less
- Household batteries – tape terminals of lithium-based and batteries greater than 9 volts

- Microwave ovens (accepted on Saturdays at Ft Totten electronic station and through 311 for bulk trash collection appointment.)

We Will NOT Accept:
- Air conditioners (Call 311 for a bulk trash collection appointment.)
- Ammunition (Take to the closest police station.)
- Explosives (Take to the closest police station.)
- Needles & Sharps (syringes used for diabetic injections) The improper disposal of contaminated sharps is a serious safety concern for garbage collectors and landfill workers. Please review the step-by-step guidance sheet for safe disposal from the Department of Energy and the Environment.
- Medicine (Do NOT pour medications down the sink or flush down the toilet.) Please see the What Goes Where? tool on the District's Zero Waste web site. Enter “medications” in the search box for a list of local pharmacies that have medication drop-off boxes. If you cannot make it to a drop-off location or event, mix crushed pills or liquid with dirt, cat litter, or used coffee grounds, then put in the trash. Recycle empty pill bottle after removing personal information and label from the bottle.
- Tires (While not accepted in the Saturday HHW/Electronics Recycling Drop-Off, up to four tires may be taken to the Fort Totten Transfer Station during regular business hours, Wednesday through Friday from 10 am to 2 pm.)

We Will Accept:
- Up to 5 boxes (approximately 20"x14"x14") of personal documents
- Personal documents with (All staples, rubber bands, paper clips, even black “alligator clips” are acceptable)
- Credit cards (no more than 10 credit cards per vehicle)
We Will NOT Accept:
- Business or commercial material
- More than 5 boxes of documents per visit per resident
